The Puke Pill

From my Diet/Work Out series:

Wouldn’t it be great if we had a pill that made us nauseated at the site of a Hershey bar or a piece of cheesecake?  Ok, now before anyone steals my idea- let it be known that I came up with The Puke Pill-cause I want my cut-are you listening Merck, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer?  Me, I came up with it.  Ok so, you take this pill and it works on your brain chemicals to literally make you sick if you look at fattening food but healthy fruits and veggies, they would make your mouth water like Pavlov’s dogs.  Yeah…that would be awesome.  That’s it, my ticket to fame, fortune and size 8 thighs- The Puke Pill!  I’ll start working on it right away~ call the patent office!
My mom once told me to replace a negative with a positive.  For me that means replacing the cookie with a carrot- now that’s a hard pill to swallow.  My life has been full of cookies and not a lot of carrots.  Consistently eating a healthy diet has always been a struggle for me.
  Growing up, my grandmother let me eat just about whatever I wanted- literally pushing the junk food in front of me because to her, that equaled love.  So summers spent at Grandmas meant I came home fat.  You can actually go through pictures of me as a kid and see when I had been with my grandmother for a couple of weeks.  So I learned early on how to eat whatever I wanted and not pay a lot of attention to anything but my taste buds.   Not only did grandma let me eat junk food, candy and soda but on top of that, she was the best cook in Rochester.  Creating  the most delicious Puerto Rican food,  no one could refuse a plate of grandmas rice & beans, pl`atanos, alcapurria, and forget about the tostones.  To grandma, a skinny person would not do.  She would be insulted if you refused seconds and she enjoyed feeding everyone.    Oh grandma, I love you…and I have your arms.   I wish I had a puke pill. http://www.bygraceministries.org/blog/

When we’re in the middle of a trial, a hard time…the way is crooked before us.  We walk a path that leads here and there, it’s dark and we’re unsure of where we’re heading.  We can’t see beyond the next turn…and we all want to see beyond the next turn, don’t we?

“Lord, its dark here…where are you taking me?  I can’t see what’s next…I don’t like this. “

But God……

He makes us a promise.  He says:  I’m going to lead you, blind and fumbling, by an unfamiliar path.  I’m going to turn the dark into light, so you can see My plan and My purpose.  I’m going to make that crooked path straight and I’ll never leave you.  I will walk this out with you- just trust Me.  Follow me with the innocent expectation of a child on a new adventure…just follow Me.

In 1963 Mattel introduced Barbies best friend, Midge. She came on a straight-legged body like Barbie and shared Barbies extensive wardrobe. Midge came in Blonde, Brunette and Titian hair and many girls liked her because she had freckles and cheerful features. NoseyRose Antiques has a variety of Midge Dolls as well as Vintage Barbie and Holiday Barbie! We carry Midge in Blonde, Brunette, Titian and Molded Head w/ Wig. Most of our Midges come dressed in a vintage tagged Barbie outfit and Brunette Midge has her original box, bathing suit bottom (she's missing her top), white open-toed Japan shoes and fashion booklet!

Molded Head Midge has her original orange headband and titian pigtails wig~she came dressed in #1606 Garden Tea Party which is hard to find. This Midge doll is on a SL body with rare painted legs and she comes with her original black wire stand and is in an unmarked box with clear cover.

1964-Vintage-Barbie-Fashion-Queen-w-Headband-Wigs

Gosh, if only I had known then what I know now....Here's the story.  I'm 15 and I want to be a rock star.  I play acoustic guitar but I really want an electric guitar because in my fantasy world I'm going to be the next Nancy Wilson (from Heart)...or a female Jimmy Page (Zeppelin anyone?).  I'll sing like Stevie Nicks and Joni Mitchell and Christy McVie, I'll die my hair black and ride a motorcycle ...oh yeah. But I didn't have an electric guitar or an amp.  What I had was a neighbor who collected dolls and she had her eye on my case of vintage Barbies and clothes...so...here's the confession:  I sold my Barbie's for $75 and bought a used amp.  What a dummy.  I still remember the Barbies I owned and their vintage clothes.  I had a Fashion Queen...and she wore a complete 1966 Fashion Luncheon (#1656) outfit that I thought was ugly!  I had Skipper and a Sweet Sixteen Barbie with  original outfits and there were shoes and purses and wigs and.......and now I know what they were worth because I sell Vintage Barbie dolls and clothes....what a dummy.  Where's that amp, you ask?  Who knows, I don't even play guitar anymore...although I think about picking it up again sometimes.  So that's my story...when I was 15 those Barbies were junk but today....they are someones treasure and I could kick myself for not holding onto them.  Oh well.  What's your Junkque story?

Summertime and Restaurant Ware...huh?

What do summertime and restaurantware have to do with each other?  I don't know, just makes me think of taking off on a bright, summer morning~ real early with my honey, and stopping at  a diner for breakfast...on our way up Rt. 5 & 20 looking for treasure.  Ya know the small town diners that use heavy restaurantware by names like Syracuse China, Iroquois, Shenango & Buffalo China (if you can still find them) and serves up delicious pancakes, eggs...bacon on those sturdy plates and a steaming cup of joe in that heavy coffee  cup that feels comforting in your hand. 
Then, full from your meal, you head out down the road heading for the next yard sale, thrift shop.....flea market (oh, yeah!).  I think that's my favorite kinda day!

These restaurant ware pieces by Syracuse China remind me of days like that.
Their bright yellow is perfect for summer and the retro design is a must have for the kitchy kitchen!

How NoseyRose got its name

NoseyRose Antiques gets it name from a nickname we gave our daughter when she was a baby. A people watcher from day one, she would stare you down until you made eye contact and then she'd give you a big toothless smile! Years later we found some kittens in the yard and our daughter named one of them Rosie. Rosie turned out to be one of those cats that has to investigate everything in the room before she can settle down to her nap, thus inheriting the name NoseyRose. Rosie must stick her nose in every corner, every box, and all your business~ so it struck me that antiquing is so similar, isn't it? And thats how we got our name~ anyone who gets a thrill from digging through boxes at a flea market or bending down to see what's under that next shelf at the local thrift store knows what I mean~ you're curious... you're nosey ! You must know what's in there- because it could be that piece of American Art Pottery you've been looking for or that WWII insignia patch that will complete your collection!
